·         The ancient Olympic Games were originally a festival or celebration in honor of Zeus, The First Olympics is traditionally dated to 776 BC, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.


·         Modern Olympics - Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement.

·         1st Olympic Session were held at Paris in 1894  first President was Demetrius Vikelas, Athens selected as the first host for the 1896 Summer Olympics. Paris selected as the second host for the 1900 Summer Olympics.

·         The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896, James B. Connolly of Massachusetts was the first modern Olympic champion.

·         The first winter Olympic games were held at  Chamonix, France in 1924. India has also competed at several Winter Olympic Games beginning in 1964 but till now no any medals from Winter Olympic.

·         Motto :- The Olympic motto is the  Citius, Altius, Fortius, which is Latin for "faster, higher, stronge , The motto was introduced in 1924 at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

·         Youth Olympic :-  Youth Olympic Games is also organised by IOC , Age group 14-18 years.
·         The first summer  Youth version was held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010 while the first winter  Youth version was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 13 to 22 January 2012.

·         RING :- The official Olympic Games debut of the Olympic rings in 1920. Designed by Pierre de Coubertin.

·        Muscot  :- Muscot :- The first Olympic mascot was  "Schuss" but it was nonofficial, and the first official muscot was “Waldi” introduced in 1972 .

·        Celebration :- olympic day is celebrated on 23 June.

·                        India and Olympic Games

·         India first participated at the Olympic Games in 1900, with alone athlete (Norman Pritchard) winning two medals- both silver- in athletics.
·         Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav  a wrestler who won a bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki , first athlete from independent India to win an individual medal in the Olympics.

·         Indian athletes have won 28 medals, all at the Summer Games,
